What is E-Sponsibility?

E-Sponsibility is defined as a person’s online responsibility. It is the maintaining and updating of their social Internet profile as well as the actions they make over the Internet. Many people have to keep in mind their E-Sponsibility, but it is especially critical for professionals. As a teacher, E-Sponsibility is incredibly important and is something that all teachers should be aware of because a teacher’s online behavior can have a negative impact on their professionalism if they are not careful. Although some things might be okay to say and do in real life, they are not always acceptable over the Internet. A part of a teacher’s job is to uphold their image as a responsible adult and if they are posting things about their private lives over the Internet, they are not necessarily doing so. E-Sponsibility is an educational issue simply because the Internet is dangerous; we never know who is able to look at what we post about our lives as well as the fact that we never know what their purpose is. Due to this fact, teachers run the risk of complications when they make the decision to put themselves out there on the Internet. In order for teachers and other professionals to protect themselves and their jobs, they need to be aware of E-Sponsibility, know the possible issues that come with Internet use, and understand what they can and cannot do over the Internet.
That is why I created this blog- to ensure that teacher’s stay safe from controversy. I want to reiterate and emphasize the significance of watching our online behavior and being careful with how we use the Internet. In the time we live in, Internet and technology keeps becoming bigger and bigger which means more and more people are using it. With so much focus on the Internet, professionals have to be extra careful with what they share with the rest of the world. It has been found that bosses and other leaders/directors/administrators have used the Internet to get to know “the real person" someone is. Individuals get fired on a constant basis due to their lack of judgment of what they think is appropriate to post over the Internet. Many people are naive and don’t realize that what they post is able to be seen by anyone, even if their profile is set to private. Because of the great impact that the Internet has over our world now, professionals need to be extra careful maintaining their online profile and watching their online behavior. The purpose of my blog is to remind us all of this concept and to teach you the issues you must steer clear of as well as what you can do to move forward and not find yourself stuck with any Internet dilemmas.
